Specially trained teachers and counselors will help you find out about the community resources you need to go on to higher education, job training or directly to work. These may include tutoring, assistive technology, mentoring, transportation, benefits counseling and other activities that prepare students for transition to independence and success in the workplace.

RELATED SITES

The Disabling Bullet Project - This site provides a step by step breakdown of how to develop and sustain a peer-to-peer mentoring program.  While this focuses on issues facing minorities with disabilities, the information can be applied globally.

Project Action – These documents provide information on how to use public transportation intended for individuals with disabilities, as well as instructional aides for teachers to incorporate the use of public transportation into school programs.

The Advocacy Center - This guide provides instruction for parents and students to maneuver through the many systems and agencies in the transition process.

Career Connect - This site provides information on jobs being performed by people who are blind or visually impaired, as well as a mechanism to connect with mentors in a variety of occupations.

Gem-Set - This is a portal to a girls' E-mentoring program for girls interested in careers in science, engineering, and technology.

Partners for Youth with Disabilities - This site offers information on mentoring programs to assist youth with disabilities, and includes an on-line mentoring program.

Institute for Community Integration - This site links to Impact, a newsletter which offers information on supporting success for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
