The Division of Rehabilitation Services (often called "DORS") has programs and services that help people with disabilities who want to work or become more independent in their homes and communities.  DORS is a part of the Maryland State Department of Education.

These programs include career counseling, job readiness skills, vocational training, assistive technology and help with higher education. There are also specialized services for students who are deaf, blind or have learning disabilities.

DORS usually begins to work with students early in the next-to-last year of school.

DORS counselors have working relationships with public and private schools throughout the state. Although many students are in special education programs, those who receive special accommodations or have other health conditions may also be eligible.

DORS also works with families and school personnel to plan for needed programs and services after high school.

DORS believes that, whenever possible, students with disabilities should receive services and become employed alongside those who do not have disabilities.

For more information, visit the DORS website.
