Local Programs

Overview

The Maryland High School/High Tech program has been very proud of our local programs. Beginning in May 2005, four new local programs opened their doors, joining the successful UCP of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties program that had been in operation for over a decade. Then, in October 2005, a fifth program, operating out of Garrett County Public Schools, began providing High School/High Tech programming to students in Western Maryland.

National Federation of the Blind, Lower Shore Enterprises, North County High School in Anne Arundel County, the University of Maryland’s Young Scholars Program, and Garrett County Public Schools were all awarded start-up grants by the Division of Rehabilitation Services through funding from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. The goal of these grants was to develop transition programs that would motivate and prepare high school students with disabilities for college, jobs and careers in technology-related areas.

Maryland's High School/High Tech grant ended in September 2007.  Since that time, two of our local programs, National Federation of the Blind and Garrett County Public Schools, have secured funding to be able to continue to provide these valuable transition services.
